Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures reviews ( 5 )
The best MMORPG out there.. And its free. The graphics in this 4 year old game is the best of all MMORPG. Eventhough The secret world have the same engine, AoC still looks better. The biggest argument for playing this game is the combat system. Its fun, and challenging, and its not push-a-button-and-run kind of game. The Second argument is the story. The 4 main classes, Mage, Rogue, Healer, and Tank, has their own story. Also the setting is appealing. The Hyborian Age is like a dark, decadent, twisted and corrupt version of Euro-Asian history. Mix a bit of the Roman Empire, Mongolian culture and Babylonian mysticism with '30s-era myths of undiscovered Africa.
Looks awesome, and people seem to like it. I'm just worried that it's the glamour of it all at first that gets people, I hope it's awesome all the way through. On a last note, I hope this game will run "ok" on my paltry 7800gtx (was the sh!t in its time though!) not to mention I hope they didn't mess up mages like wow did >:( I even have the slightest impression they have, I will never pick this game up. EVER. mages ftw!
I really want to like this game as I enjoyed reading the Conan books during my teens. However, forgetting about gameplay for the moment, I have found that it is very buggy. I really don't see why, as consumers we should put up with a faulty product. OK, maybe Funcom will iron out all the problems eventually, and I understand the argument about how MMO's are very complex and difficult to bring out without a few bugs. But using this argument condones a situation that we shouldn't accept. So, in conclusion, what should have been a great MMO franchise has been spoiled by technical issues. I will not give any more of my money to Funcom.
Terrible game. Stats weren't even enabled when the game was released, and we're still not sure if they're actually working or not. Quests basically stop around 45-50, depending on how hardcore you are about questing. Combat mechanics are terrible. They seem neat at first, but once you've used them for 40+ levels and start engaging in some PvP, you realize how awful they are. They're clunky, slow and unpolished. In your first 40 levels or so, you'll run into a half dozen bugged quests. Oh, and the entire world is divided into a bunch of tiny zones, and each zone has numerous instances of itself...way to completely ruin the whole massive, immersive world thing about MMOs. The first 20 levels of this game will have you believing that it's the best MMO ever release. But once you've put in the time to get later into the game, you'll realize what a letdown this game really is. The best way to describe AoC is to say that it feels like a bug-riddled, incomplete single player game that had multiplayer thrown in at the last second. Save your money.
This game is a blast, pure and simple. I had high expectations for it, and that usually sets me up for disappointment, but I have nothing but positive things to say about this game after several days with it. I love the interactivity of the combat and the fatalities are great fun. The graphics are gorgeous - I'm taking screenshots all over the place. The character creation options are vast and I couldn't be happier with my avatar. For the first time in an MMO, I'm actually thinking about his backstory, his character, goals, etc. Good times. Very pleased with the launch so far and looking forward to growing with this amazing game. It's all I'll be playing for the foreseeable future.
