Deus Ex: Mankind Divided reviews ( 7 )

keysmachine, Aug 23, 2016

I was sold on this game in the first 20 minutes of the game. The music along with the new selection matrix and the setting. my god, I don't care that the story was dummed down. it makes for a more concise narrative that doesn't get to big for it's own britches. Even Jensen's Voice Actor is doing a better job in this game than he did in Human Revolution. He actually shows a little bit of range in his line delivery which is nice for our traumatized and war weary protagonist.

I have just finished the game, which means a good mark already :) since I was bored by some recent titles so I quit playing them. It took me 66 hours. There is no need describing the good points of the game really since it is similar to HR, in a good way. I enjoyed it a lot, going to bed way after 3 a.m. lol. Regarding the bad and "bad" points let me comment on them: 1. Micro-transactions - never used them. By the endgame, I had Jensen fully upgraded the way I liked and 3 unused praxis. Maybe a less hardcore player might want to buy some praxis (cheaply lol), but there is no real need for that. It would even spoil the balance of the game. There is a video at youtube how to find 15 praxis in the game world, I'd miss half of them. 2. The game runs smoothly on my rig at 2560*1440. Though I had to set mouse sensitivity at 10% (!) of the default setting. At 100% the game might look jerky I imagine. No crashes. Now some real but minor gripes: 3. There too many vents / passages, so convenient... It does spoil the experience a bit IMHO. 4. There are some cut scenes which cannot be skipped. 5. The story could give us some more surprises but it is Ok. On the other hand I should note that side missions are not too many and they blend with the main story nicely. Maybe it is a 8 title but I am giving it a 9 to compensate those 0-1 whining reviews. 0, really? Common people! Advice for new players: invest in stealth style augs first because there will be many enemies like security who are not bad guys, no need for them to die. Titan is a waste! Some of my likes/dislikes, you can compare your and my tastes: I liked the following games: Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1, 2, 3 N.W., Jagged Alliance 2, Witcher 1 and 2, System Shock 1 and 2, and Doom 1 and 2, and Spear of Destiny, yes! I did not like the following games: Fallout 4, Witcher 3. ps I am not a native English speaker, sorry for possible mistakes.

I really don't care that much about the microtransactions in a single-player game. If you use them, you are only ruining the game for yourself. But it is a ***** move that symbolizes what else is wrong with this game: 1) crappy port with PC clearly an afterthought - things like the map are such a pain to use; 2) supposedly improved graphics actually worse than Human Revolution: lips and audio don't sync, framerate stutters, interiors are often too dark to track what's going on, lighting is so unrealistic it's almost painful to look at; 3) no evolution in story or design over HR - UI is noticeably worse and otherwise only a few new 'cheat' augs are added. I was so excited for the new game, and now I can't even force myself to play it. I am so disappointed. You've really destroyed a great franchise, Eidos.

If you look past the 1 use micriotransactions this is a pretty damn good game..but guess what..i'm not gonna look past them. onto the Review then Pros: -i hear people saying the graphics aren't impressive and i just gotta ask what the hell are you smoking? The game looks abosolutely beautiful. The enviroments in Prague look incredibly detailed to the core. Sure it's not Destiny level of impressive but it more then gets the job done. -the story all though it can get convoluted at times is pretty good. It continues the story from human Revolution marvelously without it feeling out of place -the gameplay is basically human revolution 2.0 and if you liked the gameplay from human Revolution (like me) then this is right up your alley. But sadly there's a big downfall to this game Cons: -the microtransactions. Everybody loves them right. But the thing that completely destroys this is that the microtransactions are in the singleplayer!!! WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKKK!!!!!! ARE YOU **** KIDDING ME!!!!! granted you can play without them but it's still crummy as **** oh and btw even if you bought the microtransactions you only get them for 1 save. once you make a new one or overwrite the save it's gone. Come on Square, come on! In conclusion if the microtransactions weren't present this game would've scored a 7/10 from me but that greedy practise ruined it. If you can get past that bull**** and if you liked Human revolution then by all means go and get it.

To be clear have bought and played this game (though I haven't finished it) so I've seen all this first hand. I'm writing a review early to warn potential buyers and to make a serious statement to Square Enix that their business practices are NOT OK Micro transactions are bad enough, but 1 use? For paid digital content that is simply ridiculous I find it hard now to review this game as anything but a scam. Also putting a shop in the main menu of a single player campaign is just sleazy, how low are Square's expectations of their customers standards? Honestly the decent gameplay is just overshadowed by these factors so I stand by the fact that my review is a real statement on the product as a whole.

Starts off with the usual, shooting bad guys, but you have almost no ammo? Then you're walking around Prague, and there aren't even any bars, which is highly unusual for Prague. You can scale buildings, which goes unnoticed by the many police officers, and steal beer from fridges, awesome. You're a badass AUG and walking is most of the action you get. I bailed when I needed a keycard to get into a room. This is not an action game, its a lame RPG.
