Kathy Rain reviews ( 7 )
I've really missed these type of games. these games drew me to gaming. story - very interesting. keeps you interested. you will feel involved. gameplay - what you would expect from an adventure game from the 90's but more polished graphics - beautiful game even though pixelated overall it was worth my 15$ had alot of fun and i'll play it again for sure to see things I've missed
It came as no surprise to me the fact Kathy Rain got such low ratings on Metacritic, and I´m not only refering to the user´s critics. Well, "critics" wouldn´t be the right term, since so far (at the moment of writing this review) there are a only 2 proper user reviews, and both recognize the game properly. If anyone reading this wants to check how the actual public received Kathy Rain just visit the Steam store webpage.
A very decent 2D Point and Click adventure, one of the best i have found the last years. PROS: Great story + Clever puzzles + Voices CONS: none that i had found
Kathy Rain is a fantastic mystery adventure that is a necessary addition to the library of any serious fan of the point-and-click genre. It's also a great starting point for anyone new to the genre and an excellent piece of horror-fiction in its own right.
Do not get disenchanted by the game's poor User Score. Kathy Rain is a really good point'n'click adventure game with good writing, interesting characters and strong voice acting. It is a vivid example of the fact that adventure games don't need stellar graphics and can thrive on story and atmosphere alone. One thing I was afraid of when I started playing is that the main character seemed like a product of a Mary Sue syndrome. She is a strong, college girl, a biker, a smart mouth and, of course, pretty. But the creator is a dude, so the theory doesn't stick. At least the character is consequential in her actions throughout the game. I wrote earlier that the game doesn't have stellar graphics and I stand by it. It doesn't change the fact, though, that Kathy Rain boasts some of the best pixel art in the last several years. Same goes for the sound. Voice acting is quite good and seems very well implemented for an indie game. All in all Kathy Rain is a recommendable title. Surely not the best adventure game ever, but definitely one of the few pearls in the last half-a-decade. With a low asking price it's a treat for any adventure gamer out there.
I bought this expecting another Gabriel Knight, but this is a disappointment. There are very little puzzles in it, the story is quite short and the ending clearly makes it like a first episode and not a full length game. Also I'm getting sick of low res graphics... Makes it hard to distinguish things.
Old style adventure game. excellent story, great gameplay, good characters. Only I wish the graphics were better. If you enjoy 3rd person point and click adventure games this is a must get!
