Mass Effect: Andromeda reviews ( 7 )

I can't say enough good things about this game. The gameplay itself is very much what I've come to expect from other Mass Effect games. Graphics are good, animation is tolerable (but maybe they'll fix that), combat is fun, dialog is compelling, and story is amazing. I say the story is amazing because I really feel like it captures the loneliness, fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and wonder of being thrown into another galaxy where we know very little about it. The story feels similar to Stargate Universe (which was actually my favorite Stargate series). Plus the events that unfold when you arrive add a sense of mystery to the overarching story. I also like that the characters that become a part of your crew are mostly regular people with pretty normal backstories, and that doesn't mean they don't have character depth or development. On the contrary they have a large depth to them if you continue talking to them and you find out more about their personalities. It's refreshing that these characters don't have some kind of "special" backstory that make them exceptional people because that happens in nearly every game (including previous Mass Effect games) and it gets old. Having normal people with good personalities around you is refreshing and it adds to the realism of the story of these people starting a new life in a new place far away from our System. There are some tech issues in the game, but no show stoppers. Overall I'm very happy, and I'll leave you with this: I was playing several games when this came out: Ghost Recon Wildlands, and NieR: Automata and now Mass Effect Andromeda has pulled me in enough to drop the both of them and finish it first before returning to them. I consider that a win!

The best game i've played so far. At first i've never played the trilogy so this is just a short review just about THIS game. Like i said it the best game i've played so far. I felt such an emptiness inside me at the end screen. I never had that feeling at any game before and i played a lot of games, Triple A and Indie Story games. I wish i hope no i WANT a sequel. Sry for grammar and other mistakes :)

Left the path of RPGs for the easy way of shooters. Graphics and sound are good, but what's the point of a team if you can't modify weapons and armor for team members ? No big decisions for the player, just some easy picks along the game. Battle is cover-shoot-cover-biotic-etc, too repeatable and easy. Story is too predictable. Nice driving, but where are the racing missions in the desert or on ice ? Give the players some challenges apart from the shooting.

Andromeda is the way to kill a good franchise. Everything that was enjoyable from the ME trilogy was destroyed in this sequel. The graphics are not much better but the animation, models and overall aesthetic design are notably worse. The story is not particularly bad but the forced SJW PC culture characters make it feel less realistic and more like a "we want to be politically correct" manifesto. The gameplay is where they really destroyed the game. You don't control teammates, the battles are basically a cover whack-a-mole from easy to hard and the only difference is how many hits the enemies take and how many there are, this makes fights more tedious but not more difficult as you go from easy to hard. There's some stupid additions like platforming segments with unresponsive big clunky 3D characters are just dreadful, the sudoku puzzle mechanic is not terrible but very unoriginal and the vehicle driving through the open world wastelands with nothing of interest in miles and miles are the guidelines on how NOT to make open world games. Instead of embracing what makes Mass Effect good this sequel tried to add more elements with poor taste leaving behind the gameplay elements that made ME an enjoyable game.

Poorly optimized PC port. The gameplay is the only redeeming quality of Mass Effect Andromeda, but even that is locked at 30 fps. You'd think this game was developed by an indie studio on a small budget.

The standard on release was simply unacceptable for the price. I don't know what happened to the facial animation but I have seen better facial animations made by high school students or hobbists who do it for free. And plenty of bugs, there's too many. Only fix was a refund. If you are reading this and you haven't played Andromeda, then just don't. The previous ones were great and this one totally hits the ground and burrows right into pile of dirt.
