Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 2: The Siege of Spinner Cay Crack/Patch

Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 2: The Siege of Spinner Cay When we left Guybrush Threepwood, he'd just escaped the mysterious winds of Flotsam Island aboard the well-meaning sailing ship The Screaming Narwhal. However, his hand is still cursed, and LeChuck--now in human form--seems, from a distance, to be courting fair Elaine's favor. To top it all, he's been intercepted by a mysterious figure, yet unrevealed. I wonder what happens next. [Telltale Games]

A perfectly satisfying second instalment of the fantastic Tales of Monkey series. The setting is a bit less typically Monkey Island this time, with the pirate town setting changed to an Atlantis-style mermaid island. I appreciate Telltale's attmpt of something different, and it leads to some great mermaid-mocking humour that the series hasn't seen before, but still leaves me looking forwards to a return to a more classic style in future chapters. The was some more subtle adult humour this time though, which 'The Screaming Narwhal' lacked. Again the game's graphics and length aren't more than what you'd expect for the price, but the witty humour and clever puzzles make it well worth a purchase if you enjoyed the first.

The second installment in the TOMI series, "The Siege of Spinner Cay" takes place instantaneous after the proceeding first chapter and delves the player straight into action. Unfortunately this title suffers from the dreaded sophomore slump in which it fails to live up to the standards of the first effort. Long time fans of the Monkey Island franchise might also be disappointed in both the setting and freshly introduced characters. While it isn't a bad effort by any means it (at times) simply doesn't feel worthy of being a M.I. game as it's quite different.

The second chapter in Tales of Monkey Island is high on quality, even more so than the first installment. The puzzles are accessible and logical, two primary qualities you look for in this genre. The graphics and dialog are all quite good and many of the jokes are sincerely funny ("Use mint on self"). Over all it loses points primarily for its brevity. It was just too short to be satisfying, and right when it seemed like the game might be building to a climax it ended abruptly. Hopefully the next chapter will have the same quality with a bit more quantity.

As a longtime fan of Monkey Island, I was disappointed by this game. All the familiar elements are there and there's lots of good stuff to be had, but the horrific audio compression just killed any enjoyment of it for me. The voices sound absolutely horrible. Hopefully Telltale will fix this in future releases, and perhaps release high quality audio for this and other previous chapters.
