The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series - A New Frontier Episode 1: Ties That Bind Part One reviews ( 7 )

I don’t have a clear sense of where the season as a whole aims to go just yet, but “Ties That Bind Part I” is one of Telltale’s strongest openers in recent memory. Scenes feel carefully constructed in their camera direction and editing, and Telltale avoids the pitfalls of its most egregious past issues — only one environmental exploration sequence temporarily slows things down — but for the most part the episode moves along at an exceptional clip. But that’s not just thanks to Part I’s style. Smart characterization and writing for Javi and his family, plus the return of Clementine, add weight to a largely unfamiliar but already engaging new frontier that I can’t wait to continue to explore.

The story starts very strong and puts you right on the action. the episode its good enough to not get bored. We kinda get some similar elements like the bad guys who are trying to kill the good ones but finaly the new protagonist Javier really shines. All the caracters are ok. Finaly I think this is a good start which really sets a up the relationship between Clem and Javi and manges to give us a solid episode ending who really gave me a jawdrop.

I love the Walking Dead and I love Telltale Games. The game puts you right on the action. Very dynamic game. The story is a little average for my taste. But I can't wait for the next episode.

The first episode of The Walking Dead season 3 start off a bit bland, out of place, and dishes off an unnecessary drama right off the bat. Even so, if you looked at A New Frontier on a fresh new perspective, you'd enjoy it somehow.

As Telltale games go, this one feels especially cheap. I don't mind a game where the story and decisions relative to it are and the crux of the game play mechanics but this entails that the script must deliver. Unfortunately, this is were this episode fails: most of the story is rushed up, bold, scotched taped with an overall quality far below what I've seen from other telltale's titles (Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones, Walking dead season 1 & 2, Borderlands). I'm keeping up only in the hope that some other writers and directors will step in and improve the whole thing. As a side note: the new visuals are appealing but meh... the old style was lovely.
