Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic reviews ( 7 )

ChrisM., Feb 11, 2004

This game is bloody awesome. No doubt about it. An involving story, deep gameplay mechanics and great graphics all put together. This is one of those you won't be able to put down. Rightly so to. One of the best games ever.

This has been the best game I have played in ages. I can nevr sit through RPGs because they usually tend to get boring. With this one I defintly had that old familiar feeling of, just another ten minutes. The story grabs you and transports you to another universe. My only main criticsm was the inventory system and that I found the final battle frustratingly hard.

Are you a fan of Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale? Then this game is a must play. It's a classic Bioware RPG. Obviously, it's not Medieval style, but set in space and instead of magic you get the Force. PROS: - good, compelling plot - your "band of misfits" and team progression - variety of worlds to explore - "detective" quests - character development - background and enhancement of Star Wars lore - old school gameplay mechanics with pausable combat - lightsabers - graphics is oldish nowadays, but it's still cool MEH: - I believe the soundtrack doesn't try hard enough, it could be better, with more obvious themes for different planets - shopping is kind of optional, you can get by with items found on dead bodies and looted from chests CONS: - pazaak gambling gets boring, Witcher made gambling much more interesting - some bugs, for example your companions frequently block your way or start the fight when you intend to just sneak by Before playing KOTOR I wasn't a huge fan of Star Wars lore. Now I begin to like it all! The game gives you a lot of background and information on specific races, planets, history of the galaxy. It's definitely one of the best RPGs I've ever played! Prepare for 40 hours of awesome story! GAMEPLAY 9/10 GRAPHICS 8/10 AUDIO 7/10 STORY 10/10

Okay, anyone who doesn't like this became assuming its boring is a noob at this game. For you people who thought it was boring and is a noob, learn how to experience this game. I had a hard time getting use to the experience of the game when I first played, but its the greatest Star Wars game EVER!

Awesome plot, great characters, good gameplay, beautiful locations... only a few bugs and technical problems give it "only" 9/10! This is probably one of the best games of all times.

There's too much text in dialog, but you can skip that. The combat could have been more involved for shooter kids, but it serves right at being fully stat-based (as an RPG should, anyway). Your moves shouldn't matter too much apart from your built character, so these complaints about the game being "for kids" I can see as biased. Apart from all this, loved the variety in missions and story. The age of it all hardly makes any difference. Having said that, producing a current-gen game of same amount varied content would require too much resources with all the hi-def visuals developers overuse these days. If you love Star Wars, love RPG, aren't a fan of purely reaction-based (first person) games, this is your cup of tea.

Steam download of KOTOR ($10.00) this absoloutly does not work. SOO happy i paid with an amex so i can get my money back. I have been trying to get this F***ing game to work for the last 3 hours with no result. I have read, and tried every possible option to get this game to work (steam overlay, resolution, uninstall and resintall, exe modification via properties menu, alt+tab) F****ing everything. If i do one thing in my life, it is to make sure no one gets scammed with this nonsense. All anyone wants to do with this game is to re-live the awesomeness that was KOTOR. Even though they made a terrible MMO remake of this game that no one playes, I still tried to give the developers one more chance. I WILL get my money back for this game but I will never get back the time I tried (and tried and tried and tried) to get this to work. You S**T bags will never get me to buy another game that you ever make. I have never written a review, nor bad mouthed anything I have played, regardless of my satisfaction. I will make it my lifes work to make sure you never scam anyone like this ever again. F**k you and everything you stand for, you are what is wrong with the gaming industry in this day age. You should be ashamed to call yourselves game devolopers, you might as well be a nigerian price asking for a wire account to make someone rich. The fact that I would put this time and effort into a 10$ download should be proof enough. I am suprised you even let people leave reviews, while you well know this does not work. I cannot belive you even made me install steam again (i used to play counter strike when it was a bonus CD in the half life series) I guess the time of conning honest gamers is not over. You have honestly made me so furious, that I cannot let a stupid 10$ game that does not work go. All I wanted to do, was to re live the fun I had with what I consider one of the best RPG's to have come out. F**K steam, F**K BIOWARE, F**K OBSIDIAN, F**K ASPYR. You have lost not only a customer, but everyone I have known, do know, and will know as customers. The worst part, is that I know this will fall on deaf ears, and that nothing will change, all I (we) want is to play the games we grew up with and you took that away, under the guise of nostalgia. You should be embarrased to call yourselves gamers, businessman, and developers. Sincerely, Jacob R Schiller (the most pissed off I have ever been) (sorry to the customer service rep who has to read this, you don't get paid enough and should take a S**T on your bosses desk, and tell Steam to shove it up their A**, GOD knows they get paid enough to clean it up)
